Toad ‘n’ Turtle Pubhouse and Grill

Laura and I were looking for someplace to dine at before our General Meeting for the Calgary Rock and Lapidary Club.  I knew of the Toad ‘n’ Turtle Pubhouse and Grill located on Barlow Trail in the North East of Calgary but never been there.  So we thought we would give it a try.

As we entered the pub we were advised to sit wherever we pleased.  The pub is quite large and there were a lot of patrons in the bar side.  We decided to sit in the dinning room.  (At least we thought it was the dining room) The dinning room decor is what you expect a pub to look like complete with fireplace.

We were promptly greeted by our waitress and advised of the daily specials.  We both decided to have wraps, Laura’s was called the Angry Wrap and mine was the Turkey Club Wrap.  The meals arrive quickly.

To our surprise the wraps were quite cold as if they were just taken out of the fridge.  Since the menu did not indicate the wraps would be cold, we kind of expected them to have been warmed up on a press grill or at least the meat inside the wraps to be warm.

Laura’s wrap was supposed to be spicy with banana peppers but she found the wrap to be too salty.  We think it might have been from the pickled banana peppers or the sriracha.

The waitress asked if we wanted dessert and we said no thank you.  This is usually a good indicator to most wait staff that we’re ready for our bill.  At this point a large table had arrived.  I finally managed to wave down our waitress after 25 minutes or more.

The manager came to the table to process our bill.  We expressed our displeasure with the wraps.  Laura also commented that it was our first time to the pub.  The manager offered free desserts but Laura said we didn’t have time and that there would be cake at the other function.  The manager tried again to give us free desserts but we said we didn’t have time.

We were disappointed that the manager did not offer a discount for a future visit.  I am sure there would be other items on the menu that we would enjoy but now we may not know.  After all, in the vicinity is the Shark Club, which we have visited before and enjoyed, and a few other establishments.

Leave us a comment if you have visited the Toad ‘n’ Turtle.  We would like to hear about your experience.  Perhaps it could entice us to visit them again.
